Orlando Vocal Ensemble
The Orlando Vocal Ensemble was founded by Pál Vikman, who is still the artistic director of the ensemble, together with eight former high school classmates. Their repertoire is based on sacred vocal polyphonic works by composers of the 14th and 16th centuries. The ensemble, which has grown to 16 members a few years ago, is now frequently performing works by later composers, mainly from the Baroque period, but also by contemporary composers, with the occasional addition of instrumentalists.
In addition to the performance of the music at their concerts, the listener is assisted by a knowledgeable commentary, providing an introduction to the style, the period and the music's history. In 2013, it was involved in the realisation of the Veszprém Early Music Days, initiated by the lutenist Csaba Nagy, and since 2019 it has been its main organiser. Orlando's repertoire includes mainly sacred works. Perhaps the most traditional concert series of the ensemble was the Advent and Holy Week Musical Devotions series. In 2019, the ensemble won the Veszprém County Prima Award.
